It's Not Quite A Hot Tub.

We've had some amazingly warm days for May. Jamie set up Brooklyn's wadding pool in a sunny spot on the veranda and Brooklyn swam and the rest of us soaked our feet. Good times.

AN AMAZING SURPRISE AND A MYSTERY!

After many years of procrastination, I decided to begin cleaning out the "old" garage. This building was likely built about 1930-40. We use it as storage for lawn mowers, etc. and it ends up with all the misc. stuff in it.

I started the clean up in the corner by the door. Shovelling(yes shovelling) the dirt and junk into the tractor bucket parked at the door.

One clump of dirt didn't break up when I hit it with the shovel. When I picked it up I realized it was a very dirty, red velvet jewelry box. When I opened it there was a diamond ring inside. What a surprise!!!!! We've looked at it closely and it has no signs of wear so it has never been worn.

So how did it get there? Who put it there? Had it been hidden on the ledge that runs around the top of the wall where it meets the roof line? It hasn't been in the corner on the floor all these years. Maybe the cats dislodged it when they were climbing up there. Why didn't the person it was intended for receive it?

So many questions. All the people who once lived here have passed on. There were four brothers in the family and two married and two were bachelors.

It seems sort of sad in a way for this ring to be forgotten all these years. Its obviously an engagement ring and from the style of the setting I'm guessing it would have been fashionable in the '40's or 50's

So what do you suppose happened?

This is the intrepid Lucky Lake fire depatment and the house they practised their moves on.

Unlike some fire departments who only get there in time to save the basement these guys started the fire too!

For a Pauls' to be on a fire department seems and oxymoron as they are usually the one's to set them.

Mike and Jeanette invited us to Lucky Lake for a dedication service. It was good to witness their pledge to raise their daughters in a way pleasing to God. As usual the girls did us proud with the way they handled themselves! Thanks Ken & Dawn Sperling for a great service. You made us feel so welcome!

Thanks too Ray and Adell for inviting us in and feeding us so well. We had a good time with you all!
GOD BLESS !

Yard Clean Up.

Having a shelter belt that is largely made up of Manitoba Maples is very pretty but as they tend to break down due to age and high wind, an annual clean up is a good idea. For us to go through the whole shelter belt each year would just be a dream so we try to do some-sometimes....

This year we're cleaning up the fallen stuff on the highway side of the yard. No end of weiner roast wood there.

More 2009 Quilts

I haven't done any posting of the quilts I've completed in '09. So here they are. There is quite a variety .
A number of baby quilts, two of which are Lone Star. Two made with scraps.
Two were full queen size made as Wedding gifts. One was a modified Irish Chain called Chains of Love. The other is from a pattern I devised from a picture.
Three were lap size. One is made with "jello Roll" packs (2). One is made with "charm squares". One was a pattern called Gatherings.

So if you can guess what each of them is there is a prize -something handmade that everyone would like....
